Is it time to boycott Israel?Thursday, January 21, 7:30pm U.S. Citizens for Peace & Justice – Rome hosts a talk with Ben Scribner, of Stop-Agrexco Roma, on this timely issue. The talk will focus on the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement. Palestinian civil society called for boycott in 2005, and following last year's attack on Gaza, the movement has had a string of successes, particularly in the UK. The presentation will include a brief film and a slide presentation with a focus on the Jordan Valley and the Italian campaign to boycott companies operating there. There will be substantial time for audience participation in discussion about the pros and cons of boycott as a concept and boycotting Israel in particular. Join us for a special opportunity to learn more about the BDS campaign, how you can become involved, and to engage in dialogue that tries to examine both sides – in favour and against – of the campaign. And bring your friends! Ben Scribner is originally from New Mexico, USA, and has been visiting the occupied Palestinian Territories on a yearly basis since 2001. He taught sociology at Emerson College in Boston for 5 years, and was a teaching assistant in psychology at Harvard University. Ben has led educational tours of the West Bank for Servizio Civile Internazionale and Assopace Roma.
