TOGETHER WITH THE "OTHER" AMERICA, WE SAY NO TO ALL BUSH'S WARSSaturday, June 9, 2007 Bush will be in Rome (See video call to action) The G8 meeting in Rostock, Germany will have just ended. Once again, the powerful will meet in an unrepresentative setting to decide the fate of the planet, surrounded by protests of people throughout the world who demand human and civil rights, democracy, global peace and justice. During the years of his presidency, Bush and his allies have created massive disasters for which the entire world is paying a high price. He has waged war on peace and international law: devising the theory of preventive and permanent war, occupying the countries of Afghanistan and Iraq, leaving a trail of death and destruction among civilian populations, instigating regional crises and applying unjust embargoes. He has waged war on peaceful cohabitation, declaring himself the head of a Western-led crusade against the Muslim world, fostering extremism and placing the world at risk of a clash of civilizations through rearmament, increased military spending and the militarization of space. He has waged war on the Middle East, supporting the unilateral policies of Israel and expressing contempt for the international laws that condemn the Wall, the colonies and the 40-year occupation. He has waged war on democracy, limiting - in the name of a greater "war on terror" - the rights of individuals and groups, legitimizing illegal detention, kidnapping and the use of torture, and continuing to support the death penalty. He has waged war on justice, imposing on the world neo-liberal economic policies and increasing the income gap, thereby impoverishing billions of people in the countries of the north and the south, while enriching the multinationals and the ruling powers. He has waged war on freedom with his religious fanaticism: attacking the rights of women, different sexual orientations, scientific research and history. He has waged war on equality, depicting all immigrants as a danger to society, consolidating the wall of death that separates the U.S. and Mexico, refusing to sign the UN Convention on Cultural Diversity that protects the heritage and cultural expressions of the peoples of the world. He has waged war on the entire world by refusing to sign the Kyoto protocol, worsening the environmental catastrophe and the rate of climate change and putting the future of all at risk. BUSH, ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. ITALY, DON'T FOLLOW BUSH! NO TO THE BASE IN VICENZA AT DAL MOLIN, NO TO U.S. BASES, NO TO MILITARIZATION, NO TO NUCLEAR WEAPONS, NO TO THE F-35 JOINT STRIKE FIGHTER, NO TO THE MISSILE DEFENSE SYSTEM. WE DEMAND TRUTH AND JUSTICE FOR NICOLA CALIPARI! WE DEMAND FREEDOM FOR HANEFI! EMERGENCY BACK IN AFGHANISTAN! We stand with the U.S. citizens who contest the neo-liberal and neo-con policies on a daily basis. We stand with all those who are working to build another world, to live in peace.
