Close Guantanamo Now!Saturday, January 17, 3pm Amnesty International in Italy is organizing for what will be the 7th anniversary of the arrival of the first detainees at Guantánamo. On January 17 they plan to march from Piazza della Repubblica to the U.S. Embassy, with 254 activists wearing the infamous orange jumpsuits, one for each of the remaining illegally detained prisoners. We will join Amnesty, as we have in the past, in calling for the immediate closure of the notorious prison, which has become a worldwide symbol of injustice and violation of human rights. If you would like to represent one of the 254 detainees the day of the
event, please let us know (name, email, tel) so
we can communicate names to the Amnesty organizers: For those who prefer not to wear a jumpsuit, you are encouraged to join us to carry signs along the march route. Meet on the square where Amnesty will have a presence (see map). Those who have signed up to represent a detainee will be meeting at 2pm. |
