Cindy Sheehan has announced a run against Rep. Nancy Pelosi if she doesn't put impeachment on the table.
July 23, 2007 marks the 5th anniversary of the Downing Street Memo, the minutes of a meeting at Number 10 Downing Street where the head of British intelligence reported that Bush and Cheney were intent on invading Iraq and were going to "fix the intelligence and facts around the policy." If ever there had been a reason to begin impeachment proceedings...but we all know 5 years have passed and the criminal actions continue.
To mark this anniversary, Cindy Sheehan, Ray McGovern, David Swanson, Col. Ann Wright, Rev. Yearwood, Dave Lindorff, Medea Benjamin and others will lead a march from Arlington National Cemetery in Washington to the office of Rep. John Conyers, chair of the Judiciary Committee, calling for the impeachment of George Bush and Dick Cheney. They will read from the Constitution and risk arrest with acts of civil disobedience. Similar actions will take place at district offices in California, Indiana and Michigan as well as protests and rallies in Florida, Maryland, Washington, Illinois, Wisconsin, N. Carolina and S. Carolina.
And we plan to show our support from Rome! You'll have two opportunities to participate:
» Impeachment Fax Blast (July 23, all day long) On Monday, July 23, you'll be able to send a fax -- with just one click from our web site -- to the office of Rep. John Conyers calling for impeachment of Bush and Cheney. Let's flood his office with faxes! Send your fax now!
» I-Team Expedition (July 23, 7pm, at the Pantheon) Later that day, be part of the I-Team, as we stroll through the tourist areas of Rome calling on people to contact Judiciary Chair John Conyers as well as their own representative in the House demanding impeachment. We'll be wearing our I-M-P-E-A-C-H t-shirts (see photos and read comments from our Impeachment tour in April) and handing out flyers and postcards to send to Congress. Meet at the obelisk in front of the Pantheon at 7pm where we will embark on our I-Team Expedition.
Contact your representative and urge support for H.Res. 333 or ask them to introduce their own articles of impeachment. (Calling or faxing most effective - see sample letter)
Bill Moyers explores the talk of impeachment with Constitutional scholar Bruce Fein, who wrote the first article of impeachment against President Bill Clinton, and The Nation's John Nichols, author of "The Genius of Impeachment"
