About Us

How we got started

USC4P&J was formed on March 19, 2005, on the occasion of the second anniversary of the invasion of Iraq. In Rome, as in cities all over the USA and throughout the world, a protest march was held calling for an end to the occupation and the withdrawal of the troops. [Read about our first year - il nostro primo anno and accounts of our events]

Many of the participants in our group that day, which numbered more than 50, had been actively protesting the war in the past, in Italy and in the USA. This was the first time we had taken the opportunity to make our collective voice heard.

USC4P&J Coordinating Committee

Members of our coordinating committee:

Anna Farkas (Coordinator)
Gene Rizzo
Maria Chiara Starace
Becky Tavani (Treasurer)

About our group

Our group is primarily made up of U.S. citizens living in Rome; some short term, some for a lifetime. Our members are students, professionals, teachers, journalists, professors and writers, all concerned citizens. We work together with U.S. citizen groups in other areas of Italy, the U.S. and Europe as well as Italian organizations.

In addition, we have members from many countries around the world, from Europe to the Americas to North Africa to the Middle East.

All individuals who have an interest in working with us to promote a just society are encouraged to join our mailing list.
