present: Voices from the Other America Voices from the Other Italy
Friday, January 13, 2006, 6pm
Casa delle Culture, via S. Crisogono, 45
An evening with: Dave Lindorff - U.S. Journalist and Writer
Maurizio Torrealta - Italian Journalist, RAINEWS24
An evening to discuss: the case for impeachment, war crimes, the assault on civil liberties, the media and ties between the U.S. and Italian governments.
...white phosphorus on the civilian population of Fallujah, the lies of the U.S. government about the presence of WMDs in Iraq, the complicity of the Italian government and Secret Services in fabricating false evidence in the run up to the war, the secret prisons in Europe where prisoners are tortured...
The U.S. and Italian governments are united in these horrors, these crimes, these lies – let's mobilize together in our opposition.
This is the first in a series of initiatives of the counter information campaign Crimes & Lies, promoted by Romacittapertallapace, as we gear up for March 18, 2006.
Rome is mobilizing!

International Day of Protest
Award-winning investigative reporter Dave Lindorff has been working as a journalist for 30 years. A regular columnist for CounterPunch, he also writes frequently for In These Times and Salon magazine, as well as for the Nation and Businessweek, for whom he also spent several years as a correspondent in Hong Kong and China in the mid-'90s. Over the years he has written for such publications as Rolling Stone, Mother Jones, Village Voice, Forbes, The London Observer and the Australian National Times.
He is the author of three books:
"This Can't Be Happening! Resisting the Disintegration of American Democracy" (Common Courage Press, 2004), a collection of his articles on CounterPunch;
"Killing Time: An Investigation into the Death Row Case of Mumia Abu-Jamal" (Common Courage Press, 2003), the only independent examination of this important capital case;
"Marketplace Medicine: The Rise of the For Profit Hospital Chains" (Bantam, 1992), an investigative report on the for-profit hospital industry.
He is currently working on his fourth book, "The Case for Impeachment: The Legal Argument for Removing President George W. Bush From Office", due to be published in the spring of 2006.
In October 2004, he was awarded a coveted "Most Censored Story of 2003" award by Project Censored (for his Oct. 16, 2003 story in Salon about the Pentagon's quiet efforts to gear up the machinery for a return to the draft). Lindorff is a founding member of the National Writers Union and lives with his family just outside Philadelphia.
Romacittapertallapace is promoting a counter information campaign Crimes & Lies as a mobilizing force for the upcoming global day of protest, March 18, 2006.
The Crimes & Lies Campaign focuses on the lies of the U.S. Government and the complicity of the allied countries such as Italy.
